We have to report the death in October 2021 of Roger Bell. Roger was a much-loved friend and colleague, and an active member of Cumbria Sculptors. His passion for art, and especially sculpture, remained undiminished throughout his life. His work was always innovative and thoughtful. He was both an inspiration and support to all who met and worked alongside him. He will be sorely missed. He trained in ceramics under Brian Starkey at Sutton College of Liberal Arts in the 1980s. Subsequently he has developed skills to use metal, wood and other materials. Sculptures are assembled from ceramic pieces, found objects, carved wood, metal rods – whatever is required. His work is best described as sculpture for domestic interiors and gardens. Eclectic inspirations include the jigsaw form, buildings, furniture and containers. He produced 2 and 3 dimensional work ranging in size from maquettes of 5cm to sculptures 125cm tall. He admired the work of Andy Goldsworthy, Anselm Kiefer and, particularly, Kurt Schwitters in the juxtaposition of found objects.. Pieces are included in the Leicestershire Collection and private collections in UK, Germany, Netherlands and USA. Further information can be found on his website rogerbellceramics.yolasite.com/
