JULIAN GARDNER
I think my carvings
Then I carve my thinkings.
I trained as a monumental mason (Letter cutter) at the City of Bath college. I then developed a taste for carving & sculpting in stone and have continued to developed this area of skill.
My work takes inspiration from a vast range of ideas and don't really stick to a theme. I've always found stone such an inspirational material and enjoy the challenge of pushing myself and the material to see how far we can go.
I've always enjoyed my work and tend to make things I'd like to keep, not working to a design especially to make sales.
I think stone is a timeless material it can be repurposed many times giving new forms and identity and when it grows old and weathered it can be re worked once again giving new life.
I like the idea of once you put the slightest mark in stone you’ve left your trace for years to come.
Always happy to discuss commissions and ideas.
