GORDON BADDELEY
After a life in Academia, I have been sculpting in old wood for the last 20 years.
The wood has taken up patterns, forms and textures as it has weathered over time. I try to respect these natural forms whilst developing those lines and textures which, I hope, add focus, grace and interest.  I like the idea of giving a new life to wood which is already many years old. The pieces are rarely totally abstract, because the shapes, sinewed and crevassed as they are, begin, consciously or otherwise, to develop identifiable animal or bird characteristics. Essentially, though, each piece has a morphology which is determined by the wood itself.
